Did you know that Barossa Fine Foods is a 4th-generation family business, with a tradition that dates back over 100 years?

The Knoll family's passion for traditional smallgoods began in Germany in 1924, when Great Uncle Andreas Knoll started his apprenticeship at just 15 years of age. Years later, he opened his own smallgoods shop in Munich before it was destroyed during the Second World War.

Although the shop was lost, the family recipes and skills lived on. In 1946, Andreas passed his knowledge to his nephew, Hans Knoll, ensuring the tradition continued.

Hans migrated to South Australia with his young family in 1957 and later established Bavaria Smallgoods in Adelaide, introducing traditional European smallgoods to local customers.

His son, Franz Knoll, learned the trade from an early age before building his experience across the Australian food industry. In 1991, he founded Barossa Fine Foods, opening the first store in the Adelaide Central Market while producing artisan smallgoods on the family farm near the Barossa Reservoir.

Today, our connection to tradition and passion for excellence still burns brightly, now carried on by the 4th generation: brothers Dieter, Stephan, Andreas & Alex Knoll. With our retail stores, iconic Adelaide Central Markets stall, and products ranging from our beloved Gypsy Ham to delicious sliced smallgoods, cold smoked seafood and more, Barossa Fine Foods remains proudly South Australian made and owned.
